Old favourites like 'Stormy Weather', 'Misty', 'I Got Rhythm' and 'Canadian Sunset' that make you smile with memories.
The title of my album is 'Songs my Father Taught Me'. It was through Dad that I first heard the early jazz greats like Fats Waller and Hoagy Carmichael, Ella Fitzgerald and Pearl Bailey.
Mike Kemp, a fabulous English jazz pianist and musician, did the arrangements for the album, which was released May 10, 2019, and is available on Spotify and Jango Radio.
Jazz music of the early years, songs like 'Hard-Hearted Hannah', 'Sweet Georgia Brown', 'Ain't Misbehavin' and 'Honeysuckle Rose' move me unlike any others. As a Jazz singer, they are a ton of fun to perform.
Here's a sneak preview of one of the tracks off my album, Songs My Father Taught Me, being released on 10 May 2019. My dad sang Sweet Georgia Brown to me when I was a very little girl. I'd just seen the Harlem Globe Trotters on TV for the first time and didn't believe the song had lyrics!
The release party was fabulous. The band was hot, the food appreciated and everyone there seemed to have a great time ... from where I was on the stage!
Canadian Sunset, with Mike Kemp on keys and Trevor Evans on Double Bass, performed at Karmana Restaurant.
